Arms, ammo recovered

A com-bined team of Imphal East commandos and 5 JK Rifles recovered arms and ammu-nition which were buried underground during a mas-sive search operation at Sandang Sengba Maring Khul, under Andro PS, Imphal East, today afternoon.
Displaying the recovered arms and ammunition in front of media persons at Imphal East SP complex, Haobijam Jogeshchandra (SP I/E) said that as per a reliable information from 5 JK Rifles regarding the presence of some armed cadres of NSCN-K and KCP loitering in and around Sandang Sengba Maring Khul, transporting arms and ammuni- tion from Chandel district to Kangpokpi and Senapati districts, a combined team of Imphal East commandos and a column 5 JK Rifles, along with sniffer dogs and a metal detector team, rush-ed to the spot and launched a massive house to house search operation at around 2.30 pm.
The combined team also carried out search at the adjoining area/forest and gorge at the northern side of the village where they found traces/ sign of people staying in an abandoned school building which had been unused for many months.
The combined team searched near the school building and ultimately, the sniffer dog detected something.
The area was dug up and a huge amount of arms and ammunition were found buried underground, including two AK 56 assault rifles with magazines, 10 AK 56 live ammunition, two 9 mm pistols with magazines and one M-20 pistol.
No one was arrested during the operation which concluded at around 6.30 pm, said the SP .
