Imphal, May 31 2013 :
While appealing to the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System to withdraw its proposed agitation of prohibiting entry of non-Manipuris in the State from June 1 to 5 next, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the portfolio of Home, has stated that if the agitation is launched, the State Government would not remain silent and it will be compelled to take up appropriate measures to control the situation which might lead to various confrontations between the two parties.
Addressing media persons at his office chamber in Imphal Secretariat here this evening, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam asserted that the State Government is not remaining silent over the issue of re-implementing ILP in the State.
The State Legislative Assembly had even passed a resolution in this regard and the resolution forwarded to the Centre for its approval since implementation of ILP in the State is not under the purview of the State Government.
As such we need to put pressure on the Central Government.
"Whether it is by All Political Party, various CSOs or by any other delegation, the matter can be moved to the Centre and pressed.
Since the Centre has to be involved over the issue of ILP implementation, just pressuring the State Government will not be enough", Gaikhangam added.
Since the State government cannot remain silent over any agitation which might lead to various unwanted incidents, the Police Department is fully prepared to control any eventuality, Gaikhangam informed, adding that security measures have been tightened and all the police stations in the state have been alerted so as to thwart any activity that may invite problem.
The agitators should not take the law into their hands, Gaikhangam said.
