Kungyee going to Quebec Film Festival

After its successful world premiere at APERTURE festival at Melbourne, Australia on November 22 last year, Kungyee, an ethnographic Tangkhul film, has been selected for Festival international du film ethnographique du Quebec (FIFEQ), Canada.
The 28-minute documentary film produced by Pamreiso Shimray, who is also the Ukhrul correspondent of Hueiyen Lanpao and directed by Chaoba Thiyam is scheduled to get its screening as part of the prestigious film festival at the University Laval as well as the University of Montreal in the month of March.
In an official email issued on February 22, FIFEQ submission coordinator Marion Provencher announced that the film will be screened at the University of Laval on March 15 and the University of Montreal on March 19 .

"In spite of an invitation from the organisers of the FIFEQ 2014, I regret to state that neither the Director nor the Producer will be able to attend the festival.
However, a brief presentation on the film (in text) will be read the day of the festival", Marion said.
Kungyee deals with the dying rituals of rain invocation among the Tangkhul Nagas -- particularly after the sowing of seeds at jhum fields.
Produced with the support of Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Manipur, the ethnographic film is set in Ningthi village under Kamjong Sub-division, Ukhrul district of Manipur.
The film had its first official premiered at "a film Fest on Tangkhul Culture" at the NEC's state of the art auditorium at Shillong, the Capital of Meghalaya on June 1, 2013 .
From there, it went on to had its world premiere at Aperture Festival which was held from November 21 to 23 last year at Melbourne, Australia.
