Awareness & hands-on training on social and emergency response on disaster

Imphal, July 30 2019:
An awareness and hands-on training on "Social and emergency response to disasters/natural calamities" was successfully organised under the directives of Imphal East District Deputy Commissioner, Dr Rangitabali Waikhom at Citizens' Club, Soibam Leikai, Wangkhei today.
The programme was organised in partnership with Indian Red Cross Society, Imphal East branch and Citizens' Club and attended by M Gojendro, ex-secretary PDA as the chief guest, N Rimotkumar Meitei as president and Rajshree Yambem, SDC Bashikhong as the guest of honour.
Imphal East district covers many rural areas and villages under its jurisdiction.
Moreover, major rivers such as Iril, Kongba and Imphal rivers run through the district.
As such, the region is prone to seasonal floods and other natural calamities.
The need to have a quick response mechanism and the ability to impart basic safety aid is the need of the hour and such awareness programme aims to equip the participants to face emergency situations.
The ICRS team demonstrated safety and emergency responses to accidents and disasters such as, building stretchers with household equipments and helping a victim of drowning by imparting CPR.
The programme was attended by around 200 people of the area including Meira Paibis, local leaders, club volunteers and students with great enthusiasm.
Meanwhile, a hands-on training was also imparted to the participants, primarily to the women of the locality.
The session concluded with a question and answer round with the ICRS team and experts.
