Chandel, September 29 2015:
A consultative meeting on the three Bills passed by Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 last was held at Chandel District headquarters on September 28 .
Members of various civil society organisations, senior citizens, advocates and members of District Council (MDC) attended the meet.
According to a press note, the meeting discussed the bills and its implications in length and later resolved to reject the same as it was found out that these clearly infringed on the rights of the tribal people especially on traditional land rights.
The release also informed that the meeting strongly condemned the Manipur Assembly's "undemocratic voice that negates the Naga people" and its movement for right to self determination.
While extending support to the framework agreement signed between Government of India and NSCN (IM), the meeting urged upon the two entities to bring about a sincere and honourable settlement.
It appealed to the Naga people to work together to realize the culmination of the peace process.
The meeting further resolved to extend all possible support to all groups of people who worked for the advancement of the tribals and also mourned the death of "martyrs" .
"It is unbecoming of elected persons to be irresponsible public leaders by not supporting and promoting peace and peace process.
The dominant people of Manipur have been consistently attempting to sabotage every peace initiative", alleged the meeting.
"They violently blocked the extension of ceasefire in Manipur and continued to protest against every form of peaceful solutions in the name of safeguarding territorial integrity," the meeting alleged.
