Maroi Nakuppi Kumhei starts

A 3 day "Maroi Nakuppi (Chinese chives) Kumei" organised by Progressive Farmers Foundation (PFF) has begun at Star Club ground, Moirangkampu Sajeb, Imphal Easttoday.
The festival organised in the State for the very first time was inaugurated by the chief guest of the event, Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister Th Shyamkumar.
During the festival, a team of dignitaries led by Th Shyamkumar inspected the 28 stalls showcasing and selling Chinese chives products.
Speaking as the chief guest of the event, Th Shyamkumar said that the initiative taken up by PFF members to spread awareness about the importance of maroi nakuppi (Chinese chives) to the local people is laudable as the plant is considered to be a favourite ingredient for many Manipuri cuisines.
Saying that the farmers have the habit of deserting their fields after harvesting, the Minister urged the farmers to plant either maroi nakuppi or any other vegetables to keep the fields green.
He further appealed the farmers to promote organic farming and also to attend training programmes conducted by the departments concerned of the State Government.
Shyamkumar presented PFF Rs 50,000 on the eve.
Khurai AC MLA L Susindro said that the farmer who produces maximum maroi nakuppi (Chinese chives) will be feted on the last day of the festival.
The MLA also donated Rs 1,20,000 to the organiser as financial aid for the festival.
