Letpao Haokip, V Valte flag off PDS rice, essential items

Water Resources and YAS Minister Letpao Haokip today flagged off the essential items for distribution to Khengjoi and Chakpikarong sub-divisions of Chandel district, as a the part of State Government's effort to ensure supply of essential commodities to the public during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Five truckloads of rice each were sent, as an initial arrangement, for distribution to the remote areas of Khenjoi and Chakpikarong sub-divisions.
The flagging off of the essential items was done by Letpao Haokip at Sugnu today morning, in the attendance of the SDOs of the two sub-divisions, social-workers and FPS agents.
It may be mentioned that Letpao Haokip, who is also the local MLA of 41-Chandel AC, was appointed by the Chief Minister N Biren Singh yesterday as District-in charge to supervise the various activities for combating measures related to the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and ensuring supplies of essential commodities for Chandel and Tengnoupal districts.
Giving his opinion, Letpao Haokip said that people of these areas have been facing acute shortage of foodgrains and other essential items due to its remote location and lack of shops.
And now with the lockdown due to COVID-19 outbreak, their hardships have increased as they even may no longer get access to their usual markets at Sugnu, Pallel and Moreh, he added.
The Minister expressed hope that such a timely response by the State Government during critical times will ease the life of the public to some extent.
The Minister will also flag off the distribution of essential items for Tengnoupal district from Pallel.
On the other hand, Amidst the scarcity of food grains following the COVID-19 lockdown, Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte has today flagged-off PDS rice meant for the people of his constituency in 7 trucks, today The rice packed in 1450 bags will be distributed free of cost in 66 villages located at Thanlon AC, within Pherzaw and Churachandpur districts said the MLA.
Every family will given 25 kg of rice at free of cost, he added.
The distribution of rice will be monitored by HYA in Hmar areas, the YVA in Vaiphei areas, and ZYA in remaining areas in collaboration with officials from the Government.
Several NGOs have also started lifting the PDS rice for their localities in Churachandpur AC.
Though the NGOs varied, sources said rice meant for many outlying villages under Churachandpur AC have been lifted today as well.
It may be mentioned here that the local MLA V Hangkhanlian yesterday brought about a dozen truckload of rice which he said will be distributed to the BPL families.
