After two days of visitors and buyers bustling around the venue, NERCORMP/IFAD Ukhrul on Friday evening brought the curtain down on its three-day 9th Exhibition-cum-Sale in a closing ceremony at TNL Ground, Ukhrul.
During the function held at 2 pm, NERCORMP Ukhrul project manager Tychicus Vashum on behalf of IFAD Ukhrul distributed prizes and citations to position holders Kamtha Cluster Association, Shomi SHG and Chirmi Cluster Association and consolation prizes to participant groups of IFAD Ukhrul.
Based on three criteria of sales amount, product variety and orderly display, Kamtha won the first prize by attaining the biggest turnover of Rs.2, 44, 640 while Shomi and Chirmi groups attained a turnovers of Rs.2, 23, 080 and Rs.1,23, 580 respectively.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Vashum attributed the success of the exhibition to public cooperation, while expressing gratitude to all the buyers for extending support to farmers and cultivators of the district by purchasing their agricultural produces at the exhibition.
He expressed fervent hope of organizing the event in the coming years, and besought the public to extend the cooperation in future to promote the agriculture community in the district.
Vashum also pointed out that though the State Government is considered a partner in various development activities of IFAD, it has failed to provide assistance to farmers in transportation of their goods as done in other parts of the country.
On top of this, farmers here are faced with myriad hardships in transporting goods due to deplorable road conditions, Vashum lamented.
Meanwhile, a huge crowd of buyers thronged the exhibition venue to do their last minute shopping of the remaining stocks at different stalls as the exhibition drew to a close with a total turnover of Rs.17, 45, 890 .
