Ex-MP Meghachandra passes away

Imphal, May 26 2011:
Former MP and MLA, Moirangthem Meghachandra Singh passed away following a prolonged illness.
He was 87 and is survived by his wife, three sons, six daughters, four grandsons and eight grand daughters.
He breathed his last yesterday at 6.40 pm at his residence at Uripok Ningthoukhongjam Leikai, according to release of the family today.
Meghachandra was elected as Member of Parliament in the 4th Lok Sabha from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in 1967.He was elected as Member of the Manipur Legislative Assembly twice from 10-Uripok A/C in 1972 and 1974 and also served as cabinet minister of education, medical, forest and co-operation.
Meghachandra who also served as chairman of the Manipur Public Service Commission from January 20, 1981 to January 19, 1987, passed his matriculation examination in 1941 from Churachand High School.
After clearing the intermediate exams in 1943 from Gauhati's Cotton College, he obtained his Bachelor of Law in 1958 from Delhi University.
