Thoubal, February 01 2021:
Thoubal River Conservation Committee (TRCC) in a statement urged the Government to clean and conserve Thoubal River from further degradation.
TRCC has been working earnestly to protect Thoubal River since many years.
However there is no initiation from the Government's side till date for the said cause, said the statement.
The committee expressed discontentment that the Government has not taken up any measure to protect Thoubal River which is highly polluted and is in a deplorable state.
The High Court of Manipur has put a total ban on unauthorised stone quarrying, sand mining in all rivers of the State in order to prevent river pollution especially Thoubal River.
However some people probably with political backings are carrying out such activities defying the orders of the Court, added the statement.
TRCC along with the support from the locals will take up serious action against those involved in such activities.
The committee also sought the attention of the Government into the matter at the earliest as many are dependent on Thoubal River for daily use.
Lastly TRCC appealed to all not to dump waste into the river and warned that if anyone is found dumping waste, appropriate action will be taken against them.
