Sudden curfew causes chaos in Thoubal

Shoppers and large number of public who came to markets in Thoubal and Kakching ran in panic causing chaos and confusion when police announced sudden imposition of curfew using PA system today morning.
Following report of relaxation of general strike for Christmas, people from different parts of Thoubal and Chandel districts came to Thoubal and Kakching Keithel to purchase essential commodities as well as for last minute Christmas shopping.
At around 10.40 am, police announced that curfew has been imposed in Thoubal district from 11 am to 6 am next day.
Caught off guard, panic public and shoppers started running helter-skelter in the hope of reaching homes before the curfew begins.
Confusion and chaos reigned at Kakching Keithel with everyone running around to catch any available transport means.
A Christmas shopper from Chandel district who came to Kakching Keithel with her small baby told Hueiyen Lanpao that the whole state is suffering due to the incident that happened in Chandel.
"We came here to shop for Christmas hearing the news of relaxation of bandh.
However the sudden imposition of curfew has added more woes to the people", she said and appealed to the Manipur government to arrest the culprit Livingstone at the earliest and punish him accordingly so that peace and normalcy may return in the state.
