Imphal, June 22 2017:
The S Maipi Village Authority has condemned the clash between the villagers of Machi and Khudei Khuman over a land dispute which took place on June 20 .
A press release issued by the Chief of S Maipi village today alleged that the disputed land does not belong to any of the two villages but to S Maipi village since time immemorial .
It explained that S Maipi, also known as Maibi Soyam in the early days, was established before India attained independence and since its inception, the villagers settled peacefully with the neighbouring villages of Machi, Samukom, Khudei Khullen and Phunchong .
It pointed out that the villagers were displaced from the disputed land, their original village, due to ethnic clash between the Nagas and Kukis in the early nineties and have not been able to resettle there even till today .
However, in 2004, one Thomas Maring, a former member of Chandel ADC illegally set up a village called Khudei Khuman/ Hong Kong in place of the original village land without the chief's knowledge and consent, it alleged and pointed out that the individual also got recognition of the new village from the district administration through forged documents and signatures .
It further clarified that the disputed land between Machi and Khudei Khuman belongs to S Maipi village.
