Lamka, May 22 2010:
Personnel of the Assam Rifles and BRTF are working fulltime to ensure safe passage for transporters along the Guite and to restore a delicate Bailey bridge at Tuivel village.
Ever since the persistent economic blockade of the ANSAM have forced a considerable number of transporters and the State Government decided to opt for the Guite Road to transport goods into the State, the 30 AR post at Singngat and the BRTF post at Tangpizawl were working overtime repairing the road and assisting the transporters, reports reaching here said.
The BRTF workforce at Tangpizawl were working on the Singngat-Behiang stretch of the Tiddim Road but the urgency of personnel along the Guite Road in this hour has allegedly constrained to shift them to the other road, said a source.
A team of media persons who went to Tuivel to oversee the impediment caused by the weak Bailey bridge said over 60 trucks, most of them heavy vehicles, were waiting for the AR and BRTF to fasten the diversion path along the river stretch.
Trucks that were stuck along the stretch were dragged across by heavy machineries and the exercises have ensured that any awaiting trucks have cross the stretch safely, added the source.
The AR and BRTF personnel were encamped at the site while equipments for repairing the Bailey bridge have began to arrive.
Most of the vehicles entering the district through the Guite Road were carrying fuel.
Around 80 heavy and light vehicles arrived here from Mizoram while similar numbers have left here for Mizoram.
