Free plastic pollution drive conducted along Tiddim road

Bishnupur, September 21 2019:
With a view to make Bishnupur district a plastic free zone and to advocate the habit of proper disposal of garbage, Manipur Pollution Control Board and District Water and Sanitation Committee, PHED Bishnupur organised a cleanliness drive followed by a tree plantation and free plastic pollution drive from Utlou to Mini Secretariat complex of the district today.
The drive which was carried out on the opposite sides of Tiddim road was attended by Manipur Pollution Control Board chairman L Radhakishor, DC Bishnupur Neeta Arambam, district police, LDA Project Director L Bhagaton, Pradhans among others.
Speaking about the event, Radhakishor said that the failure to properly dispose the plastics cause many impacts on human health while the plastics, on the other hand, takes hundreds of years to decompose.
This in turn affects the soil and causes different kinds of pollution including water pollution, air pollution (from burning them) etc, added the chairman.
He urged all to shift towards more recyclable materials for carrying purposes and proper decompose the plastics as well.
EE of PHED Bishnupur Division maintained that the garbage and single-use plastics lying on the opposite sides of the road will be sent to the recycle agency.
He further urged all the people to dump their garbage on a probable location or use garbage bins in order to initiate the cleaning process for a clean district.
Meanwhile, DC Neeta Arambam said that they were planning to collect atleast 500kg of plastics during the drive.
She also urged the denizens not to throw away their garbage recklessly at any place.
More than 100 kg of plastics were collected/recovered from Utlou Chanura till Mini Secretariat during the plastic drive and over 300 kg of garbage, which were cleaned during the camp, were also deposited at the Mini Secretariat dumping site,
