At least seven underground activists, including those involved in the extortion and kidnapping of people for ransom, were nabbed by the security forces during counter insurgency operations in the last 24-hours and recovering arms and ammunitions including AK-series rifles, officials said today.
Of the seven activists, two each belong to PREPAK and KCP (MC), said Imphal east additional SP, M Rajen adding that they were involved in the extortion of money from government officials, offices, individuals in Imphal east district.
In all two AK-56 rifles with a magazine each containing 50 live rounds and a .32 pistol with four live rounds in the magazine were recovered from the four activists, he added.
The two PREPAK activists were Huidrom Kumar @ Ibocha (48) son of late Mangi of Andro Khunou (Torongthel) and Khunumayum Romesh @ Nilachandra (27) son of Kh Angou of Andro Khunou Machengpat while the KCP (MC) cadres were identified as Meitankeishangbam Jiban @ Katung (28) son of M Prioykumar of Sabungkhok Makha Leikai and Thokchom Sanayaima Meitei @ Apao (29) son of late Th Bame of Sabungkhok Makha Leikai.
Kumar and Romesh were apprehended during a search operation at Andro and its surrounding areas under Yairipok police station.
The combined force picked up Romesh around 9.30 am today in a follow up action followign a disclosure made by Kumar who was nabbed yesterday evening.
The two AK-series rifles were recovered from them, he added.
Jiban and Sanayaima cadres of KCP (MC) were nabbed in another joint operation launched by Imphal east police commandos jointly with troops of 23 Assam Rifles at Samukhok village under Lamlai police station.
A .32 pistol loaded with four live rounds recovered from the possession of one of the cadre, the officer said.
A fifth underground activist belonging to KCP (Noyon) group was nabbed by the Imphal east police from Lamlong Bazar yesterday.
He was identified as Shrimayum Noval Sharma (32) son of Chandramani of Yourbung Maning Leikai, said Imphal east SP, Th Radheshyam in a statement today.
Troops of Red Shield Division also apprehended a KRA cadre of the KK Battalion in an anti-insurgency operation at Wakotphai village in Sadar Hills yesterday.
Troops of the 10th DOGRA launched an operation in the general area of Wakotphai village based on information of presence of some anti-social elements with intentions to carry out extortions in the area.
In the operations the troops nabbed the cadre, Thangminlum.
One pistol and three rounds of ammunition were recovered from the cadre.
He was handed over to Kangpokpi police station yesterday itself, a statement of the PIB (Defence Wing, Imphal said.
Meanwhile, three more underground cadres were nabbed by troops of Assam Rifles in different counter insurgency operations today.
One of the cadres belonging to PULF (MI Khan) was apprehended from Changamdabi area by troops of 15 Assam Rifles around 1.20 am today.
He was identified as Md Abdul Matalib (21) son of Md Adul Gani of Kairao Menjorhingol.
One mobile phone (Nokia 1200) with SIM Card recovered from his possession.
