The District Health Mission Society, Tamenglong organised 'Healthy Mother and Baby Show' Competition on November 18 at District Hospital, Tamenglong.
Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong, Armstrong Pame, who attended the event as the chief guest asserted Tamenglong is one of the most malnourished districts in India.
Pointing out the factors, he said poor road connectivity leading to inaccessibility of the interiors, poor socio-economic condition, early weaning and less consumption of nutritious food, misconception like immunization of children would lead to sterility and ignorant mothers refusing to care children are some of the most common problems which leads to malnourishments.
Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong Hospital, Dr Chambo Gonmei stated that to improve the health of the mother ante-natal check up is a must and should visit the nearest health centre for availing health facility and consultation with the nurses.
Women during pregnancy should not refuse but take iron and folic acid tablets regularly and eat nutritious food, he said.
For different categories, cash prizes and citations were given to the best babies and mothers.
The winners of the 3 categories will represent the district at the State level.
