Imphal, February 18 2019:
An environmental monitoring van was launched today by Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) Chairman Laishram Radhakishore.
Launching the van at the Lamphelpat office of MPCB (located adjacent to Imphal West DC office) this afternoon, Radhakishore said that the van will move to 54 stations from tomorrow to check water pollution level.
He said that the campaign will cover all the 16 districts of the State.
On the other hand, as per an order issued by the High Court of Manipur in accordance with a directive of the National Green Tribunal, a joint team of MPCB experts and advocates will launch an inspection drive at 563 health care centres.
Already 73 health care centres located within Imphal and adjoining areas have been inspected.
Activities being carried out by MPCB under the instruction of Central Pollution Control Board are quite vast.
Apart from monitoring pollution of water, air and soil, the board has also been monitoring noise level as well as management of solid waste, bio-medical waste and e-waste, Radhakishore said.
He said that the van launched today was purchased out of the revenue collected by MPCB.
Out of 911 vehicles tested, emission levels of 48.70 per cent were found to be above permissible limit and one primary factor for this unhealthy permissible limit is the use of vehicles which are more than 15 years old, said the MPCB Chairman.
