Imphal, January 18 2020:
Following a statement made by Radheshyam Julaniya, Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Secretary, GoI, during the 2nd foundation day observation of National Sports University yesterday, the guardians of the students staying at SAI Khuman Lampak have express apprehension on whether the institute will be closed down by the authorities.
Speaking to media persons, one of the guardians, Naorem Damu said that, today, students of SAI called their parents/guardians, saying that there is apprehension among those staying in SAI Khuman Lampak that they might have to vacate the hostel at a moment's notice.
Yesterday, during his speech, Radheshyam Julaniya had announced that some events would be removed from SAI Khuman Lampak and that only three events, Wushu, fencing and weightlifting, will be left.
Following the statement, an order was passed by the authority concerned to remove Sepak Takraw event from SAI Takyel yesterday itself, the guardian alleged, condemning such a move by YAS without providing any proper reasons and alternative means to those affected.
The steps taken up by the YAS is condemnable and the move has raised suspicion that it is trying to close down SAI Khuman Lampak by attaching the students of three events to SAI Takyel, he added.
He then appealed to YAS to consider its action properly, explaining that SAI Khuman Lampak is a grass root foundation for the players of the State who will later go on to represent the State and the county at the National and International levels respectively, bringing fame and glory to the Nation.
He also appealed CM N Biren to look into the matter, considering the future sports loving generation of the State.
