Five die in separate vehicle mishaps

Imphal, January 17, 2011:
Five people including a junior engineer of the BRTF died in two separate mishaps in Senapati district today.
The incident that killed three BRTF personnel occurred at Willong village, 66 km on the southwest of Mao Police Station in Senapati district around 9.30 pm when a BRTF tipper had a head on collision with a Shaktiman truck.
The deceased engineer was identified as Dafe Chakma (25) of Arunachal Pradesh and the other victims were the driver of the tipper Ajit Singh (25) of Ganeshpur, Rajasthan and labourer Hanal (22) from Assam's Cachar Sonaipur village.
The personnel belonging to 98 Road Construction Company of BRTF was moving to their place of work from the BRTF HQ at Maram.
After the collision the tipper fell in a 500 metre deep gorge, reports received here said.
The dead bodies were retrieved from the gorge and kept at the HQ.
The vehicle is yet to be dragged out of the gorge, the reported added.
The other incident took place this evening around 5 pm, in which a Shakitman truck carrying FCI rice slipped and fell into a gorge at Khongnem on NH 39, one kilometer toward Senapati district HQ from Lairouching.
In the mishap, two occupants died.
However, details of the victims could not be available till the time of filing this report.
The truck loaded FCI rice from Senapati FCI godown and was moving to Tungjoy village.
