ADB releases 10 Cr for Bishnupur-Tupul Road construction
46 km Ring Road to cost Rs.346 Cr

Construction of much-demanded Bishnupur-Tupul road and Thoubal-Kasom Khullen will begin shortly, as the Asian Development Bank has released an initial amount of Rs.10 Cr.
For these works to be implemented under North eastern State Roads Investment programme.
An amount to the tune of Rs.10 Cr has been released for construction of Bishnupur-Tupul road and Thoubal-Kasom Khullen under the North eastern State Roads Investment programme.
Chief Engineer of Public Works Department M.Lokendro told this Daily that the state government has been working to get approval of the project under Asian Development Bank (ADB) since 10 years back.
He expressed belief that the remaining funds will be released subsequently.
Asian development Bank has approved to provide a sum of Rs.846 Cr for construction of the 46 km Bishnupur- Tupul road and 50 km Thoubal-Kasom khullen road.
On the other hand, the initial works for construction of a Ring Road at Imphal to be taken up by South Asian Sub-Regional Economic Cooperation under the ADB have almost been completed with floating of tender.
After the initial screening, six agencies have remained and the final opening of tender is being awaited.
According to the chief engineer, the length of the Ring Road is 46 km and the amount to be incurred is Rs.346 Cr inclusive of cost of retaining wall, drainage etc.
The compensation for land acquisition for the Ring Road is to be paid by the state government, said Lokendro while adding that the proposed road will be of unique quality with expenditure for each one km being Rs.8.17 Cr.
The construction of a Ring Road has been necessitated by the traffic frequent congestion in Imphal city, he added.
