Seminar cum Training for Quality Planting Material conducted by Institute of Horticulture Technology

Guwahati, October 15 2017: Institute of Horticulture Technology organized 2 days training cum seminar on 'Production of Quality Planting Material' at Farmer's Training Center Directorate of Horticulture & Food Processing, Khanapara, Guwahati-22, Assam.

The Seminar which begins yesterday was inaugurated by Mr..KK Mittal, IAS APC Agriculture department Govt.of Assam.

Among the distinguished dignitaries who attended the seminar included Mr.Prabin Hajarika Director, Horticulture & Food Processing, Assam; Dr.H.C.Bhattachrjee Director Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University, Assam; Mr.Lunghar Obed Director Coconut Development Board, Assam; Mr.Jayanta Samal DGM, NABAD, Assam; Dr.S.C.Panwar Joint Director, NHB, Assam.

Farmers from Assam and Manipur attended the seminar.

The seminar had a mandate for interactive lectures and hands on training.

Who was Chief Guest for the seminar delivered the inaugural address and outlined the priority of the quality planting material with respect of the purpose of the crop, he explained how different varieties are meant for self use or local market and processing factories.

On this occasion a special newsletter published by IHT was released by Sh.K.K.Mittal IAS, APC Agriculture department Govt.of Assam.

He also outlined the need to work with IHT in PPP mode for the production of plants through tissue culture or by plug type nursery.

He was pleased to know about the activities of IHT across different states of India and for other countries with respect of providing hands on trainings in innovative technologies in Horticulture.

He felt the need of keeping contact with the farmers who undertake the trainings.

Mr.Prabin Hajarika Director, Horticulture & Food Processing, Assam mentioned about the different schemes for the welfare of the farmers and need to work with IHT for imparting hands on trainings to the farmers of Assam.

Dr.H.C.Bhattachrjee Director Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University, Assam spoke about the attitude which farmers need to change for the adoption of new technologies in Horticulture.

Mr.Sanjay Sudan, Co Chairman, IHT and Dr Umesh Kohli Director IHT spoke about the possibilities of up skilling the farmers for doubling their income by developing bio entrepreneurship in the NE region.

The farmers from Manipur were provided with hands on trainings on dendrobium cut flower production technology under IHT-IBSD collaborative project on dendrobium cut flower production in Manipur.

Various speakers who interacted with famers included Mr.Prabin Hajarika Director, Horticulture & Food Processing, Assam; Dr.H.C.Bhattachrjee Director Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University, Assam; Mr.Lunghar Obed Director Coconut Development Board, Assam; Mr.Jayanta Samal DGM, NABAD, Assam; Dr.S.C.Panwar Joint Director, NHB, Assam.

The speakers interacted with the famers and cleared many queries regarding the production of quality planting material.

Many solutions were provided to the farmers while imparting the hands on trainings.

Day 2 started with thought provoking interactions by Dr H.C Bhattacharya Director Extension Education AAU who spoke on women empowerment and their role in Horticulture.

The technical session was chaired by Dr H.C Bhattacharya Director Extension Education AAU alongwith Dr A K Tripathi Director ICAR, Dr S C Panwar Joint Director National Horticulture Board, and Dr U K Kohli Director IHT.

This session started with exhaustive interaction of the farmers with panelists.

The farmers were provided with solutions in local language about the technologies in young plant production.

Interactive lectures that was followed by farmers � expert's question answer session, resulted in solutions to farmers difficulties in accessing quality planting material .

Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer's Welfare, Govt.of India for Hi Tech Horticulture Trainings.

IHT was established in 2009 in National Capital Region, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

The institute has State of the Art facilities coupled with experienced and professional faculty.

Institute offers short term and long term courses for farmers, horticulture functionaries, agriculture graduates and entrepreneurs of different states and union territories.

The institute has established another campus in Mandira, Guwahati, Assam in order to facilitate training of farmers and entrepreneurs of North-eastern states.

The campus has 150 acre cultivable land and hostel for residential trainings.

For capacity building programmes and partnership projects the campus focusses on the priority areas of the regions like orchids, protected cultivation and promotion of innovative technologies for crops of local importance.

Our extensive portfolio of courses at the campus includes short term, long term and exposure programmes, besides the regular courses, 'The On-Site' training programmes at state/district/block/village level are also conducted in arrangement with local institutions / KVK / PRI across the country.

The medium of instruction is English mixed with vernacular version of Hindi & pure local language Instructions are delivered through interactive lectures, limiting the theory to what is strictly necessary and by involving the trainees in Hands on Trainings.

Institute conducts field visits and other technical exposure visits for the trainees for better understanding and live demonstration of the technologies.

The Institute envisions training of youth in scientific horticulture to meet the need of fast developing horticulture industry of the country so as to impart skill development to ensure increase production and employment opportunities.

The Institute has already organized trainings for more than 50,000 trainees on different aspects of horticulture for farmers, entrepreneurs and horticulture officers of various states that is Andaman Nicobar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Assam, Sikkim, Nagaland, Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and abroad �mainly Tunisia, Ethopia, Ghanna, Sudan, Tajikistan, Palestine, Vietnam, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Bahrain in last eight years.

The main fields of trainings were Design and Development of Greenhouse, Greenhouse Construction Management and Production, Hi-tech Nursery Production, Production of High Value crops under cover, Good Horticultural Practices, Production of Quality Planting Material, High Density planting/ Meadow Orcharding, Canopy Management and Rejuvenation of Unproductive Orchards.

IHT has been successfully organizing annual events such as 'Horti India' since 2012.The earlier events were inaugurated by Governors, Union/State Ministers and Secretaries to Government of India and attended by policy planners, entrepreneurs, participants from corporate sectors and farmers across different states and union territories of India.

These events were well received and attracted a wide coverage in National Newspapers and TV channels through popular programmes like Krishi Darshan.
