Imphal, February 13 2013:
Kuki Students' Organisation-general headquarters (KSO-GHqs) has announced its decision to oppose the proposed talks between the state government and the All Tribal Students Union, Manipur (ATSUM) slated for February 16.In a statement, Mangcha Baite, Vice President (Administration) of KSO General Headquarters, categorically stated that it is unfortunate and astounding to hear that, even after fully aware of the ATSUM's failure and formation of pseudo ATSUM by just 2 to 3 vested interest persons who don't have the mandate to do so, have been invited for talks related to triblals cause by the state government.
Mangcha asserted that right from the beginning of this ATSUM formation, it had made its stance clear to the public that it will never be a party to this ATSUM unlike the past so many years.
The KSO said it is doing so for the cause of tribal unity and to preserve the integrity of ATSUM and re-install the genuine ATSUM.
"Till date the KSO along with the senior Naga student leaders have been working tirelessly to form the genuine ATSUM.
Moreover, we are much aware of tribal people being deprived and discriminated in the state but taking advantage of the situation by a dubious ATSUM is much more unfortunate," the Kuki students' body rued.
"Therefore, if the State government continues to hold talks with this pseudo ATSUM which is run by non-experienced and self-interest persons.
The KSO will not take it lightly, and considered it as have cahoots with this ATSUM to fool the tribals of the state.
If any misunderstanding arises out of this proposed meeting the state government will solely be held responsible to it," the Kuki students' body cautions.
It may be noted here that ATSUM was agitating since February 4 but it was temporarily suspended after the state government invited it for talks.
