Fire destroys house at Old Mandu village

Jiribam, January 12 2019:
A major fire partly destroyed a house at Old Mandu village in Tousem Sub-division, Tamenglong District today at 12.30 pm .
The house reportedly belongs to one Pousuiteung.
According to sources, the origin of the fire has not been ascertained so far.
The house was reportedly caught by the fire when no one was inside the house, however the villagers doused the flame in time and prevented the house from inflicting major damage.
It has been reported that belongings worth Rs one lakh were destroyed by the fire.
According to village chief Hangrang, the villagers found it hard to put out the fire as no fire service office is anywhere near the village and urged the authority concerned to build a fire service office in the village at the earliest.
He further said a major fire caused extensive damage to a house at new Mandu village some time back and added that a Fire Service Office should be opened at Tousem Sub-division to address the grievances of the public.
