Chief Minister flatly refuses VI Schedule: Ibobi made to confront Shinde in front of Sonia

Imphal, January 11 2013: Chief Minister O Ibobi, who had been summoned to hear his last word on the 'impending solution' to the peace talks between NSCN-IM and Government of India, has flatly refused any possibility of implementing VI Schedule of the Indian Constitution to appease some disgruntled section of the Nagas, during a confrontation with Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, which took place in front of AICC President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

According to reports reaching Hueiyen Lanpao from Delhi, CM O Ibobi first met Congress President Sonia Gandhi at around 11 am today.

The Congress President was accompanied by her advisor Ahmad Patel during the meeting in which CM O Ibobi made it clear that State of Manipur welcomes the initiative being taken up to bring about a lasting solution to the Indo-NSCN(IM) issue.

However, any solution that might hurt the sentiments of the people of Manipur would never be tolerated.

The CM also told Sonia Gandhi that it would not be proper to create another big problem while trying to solve a problem, and explained in detail about the present law and order situation of Manipur; the age long relationship between the hill and the valley people and the allegations of the hill people that they are being sidelined, the reports added.

Later, Congress President Sonia Gandhi called in Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and made to confront with Ibobi in her presence.

The Union Home Minister expressed his desire to implement Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution in Manipur without disturbing the territorial integrity of the State.

However, O Ibobi refused any possibility of implementing Sixth Schedule in Manipur maintaining that it would destroy the love and peaceful co-existence among the people.

He also made it clear that majority of the people in the State are against the proposal for implementing Sixth Schedule in any part of Manipur.

During the meeting, CM O Ibobi was made aware of the different strategies taken up by the Union Government to bring about a solution to the ongoing peace talk with the Naga rebel group in the presence of Sonia Gandhi.According to reports, the CM outrightly refused any proposal on implementing Sixth Schedule in Manipur.

However, there is no official report on how the meeting was finally resolved.

Spokesperson of the CM led Congress Government has also remained silent over the issue.

CM O Ibobi would be in Delhi till January 17 .
