Imphal, May 10 2019:
All Manipur Sub-Mission on Agriculture Mechanization (SMAM) 2018-19 Beneficiaries Committee has appealed the State Government/authority concerned to release the subsidy of SMAM scheme before May 15 and cautioned that stringent agitation will be launched if the beneficiaries are not given the promised 90% subsidy on time.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today, the committee's general secretary Karam Gyaneshwor Meitei said that the farmers/beneficiaries have already bought the agricultural machinery (engines) as the Government had promised to bear 90% of the cost.
However, the subsidy has not been release till date, he said.
He claimed that the Chief Minister on December 2 last year, through newspapers, had promised to provide the 90% subsidy.
The scheme was launched to double farmers' income, so the Government must uphold its end of the promise for welfare of the farmers, he added.
About 30 beneficiaries were selected from each district, he said.
