Imphal, August 09, 2014:
'Modi Village, one of the oldest villages in Chandel District which is located just 5 kilometers from the district headquarters is lagging behind others in the field of development'.
This was stated by KL John, Chief of Modi Village, while speaking to media on the sidelines of Installation programme of Modi Village New Signboard which was donated by Chandel Naga People's Organization (CNPO) on Friday.
Despite being one of the oldest Christian converted villages in Chandel district headquarters and established well before the World War II, Modi village still does not have even a community hall, water supply and other amenities, the chief pointed out.
The villagers obtain water from nearby Chakpi River for drinking and it is difficult during rainy season, John lamented.
While drawing the attention of the government to transform the village into a Model Village, Modi Village Chief also expressed his hope of bringing some changes in the village as there is a new government at the centre under the Prime Ministership of Narendra Modi.
After unveiling the newly installed village signboard, WS Kanral Anal, President of CNPO, said installation programme of new signboard was done to draw the attention of the new Prime Minister to make him aware of the existence of the village in the name of 'Modi' in Chandel District.
He expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will acknowledge the aspirations of the villagers of Modi Village and provide them with necessary amenities in the village.
Executive members of CNPO and Anal Naga Taangpi, former chiefs of the village, women representative, church leaders also attended the installation program among others.
