Subsequent to Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra claims over non-completion of two portions of road construction under PMGSY at Galkapkot village under Thanlon sub-division during spot inspection carried out on October 31, an independent enquiry was conducted by a team of journalists on Thursday.
Based on findings of the team, the contractor concerned M Dama started the road construction work with earnestness in the first week of November 2022 and 4 km of WBM laying has been completed.
The total stretch of the road is 17 km and not 26 km as projected by the Congress president from the two portions, namely first 3101-8km distance from Gamhui to Galkapkot and second is 310'2 which is 9 km from Gamhui to Galkapkot as per the sanction order.
The total sanctioned amount is Rs 7.4 crore.
Inspecting the whole stretch of the road in question, the media team found that the labourers were doing their works and so far laying of WBM has covered a distance of 4 km.
A villager identified as Lama, chief of Mualkot while talking to this correspondent expressed happiness to the MPCC president Meghachandra for carrying out a meticulous study of the people's problems in terms of road construction and for making it public and kept the authorities concerned on their toes, resulting in the works being carried out with earnestness.
He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the contractor M Dama on behalf of village chiefs of the areas for his sincerity in taking up the work of metalling the two portions of the road with a firm determination to complete it by January 2023.M Dama, who happened to be present at the work site while interacting with this correspondent, stated he left no stone unturned to com plete the work and ensure quality to the satisfaction of all residents along the road but his ill health hindered his work.
The contractor disclosed that he had suffered from COVID-19 and got hospitalised at RIMS with rumours doing the rounds that he was dead or had undergone brain surgery at Delhi.
Dama continued that it was not that he had abandoned the work but it was purely due to his sickness which stalled his plan, adding that his resumption of the work is not because of somebody raising a hullabaloo but it his priority.
He was seen installing all necessary machineries as labourers were working on a war footing to complete blacktopping of the road by January 2023 .
