Imphal, November 08 2021:
Lok Janashakti Party (UP) national vice-president and Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam has announced his decision to join BJP on Thursday while citing the party's downfall at the Centre as the reason for his decision.
Addressing a press meet at his residence on Monday, Karam Shyam said that downfall of UP at the Centre coupled with vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi led him to decide on joining BJP with the hope that he could contribute more in bringing development at the grassroots level in the state.
He will officially join BJP on November 11 and will do his best to increase the strength of the party, he said.
Regarding his rivalry with NPP, the former minister said that NPP's intending candidate Nabakishore was a teacher, who not only built his house at Karam village but also bought a land at Langthabal Kunja and constructed another house at the cost of several crores of rupees.
Moreover, he has several land properties in Chajing, which is impossible with the income of a teacher, he said.
He also called Nabakishore a person with loose moral character while criticising deputy chief minister Y Joykumar for attempting to sabotage his (Karam Shyam) image during a political conference of Nabakishore.
The allegations that Joykumar made against him regarding PDS rice of Pherzawl district has already been cleared by the House Committee, of which Joykumar is a member.
It is unfortunate for the Dy CM to bring up such resolved matter just for the sake of tarnishing his image, Karam Shyam said.
He also refuted the allegation of buying several shop plots and agricultural areas while stating that he will retire from politics if the Dy CM could prove his allegations with documentary proofs.
He then questioned the source of income of Y Joykumar, who is constructing buildings in Naoremthong & Iroisemba areas, buying agricultural lands in Lamboikhongnangkhong & Iroishemba areas, and constructed buildings in Langthabal Kunja area while he was the DGP of Manipur.
It is unfortunate that the Dy CM criticised him for constructing his (Karam Shyam) house with housing loan while keeping mum about his eight houses.
He also reminded Joykumar of facing a pending case in the Supreme Court over extra-judicial killing of over 1500 civilians during his tenure as DGP of the state.
He is known as 'percentage deputy CM' among the circle of MLAs and ministers, Karam Shyam said.
Recalling how the Dy CM threatened to withdraw support from the BJP led government if any of the NPP ministers were affected in ministry reshuffle, Shyam questioned Joykumar's stand when two of his party's ministers were relegated from the cabinet post.
Implying that the Dy CM did not support BJP candidate in the Lok Sabha MP election, he called Joykumar as an immature politician who does not know ethics of coalition.
Karam Shyam further said that he presented appointment letter for 59 posts under Die-in-Harness scheme in front of the media without any corruption.
He also conducted lottery for transfer and posting of 49 employees before the presence of media persons.
Till date, he has been transparent in the utilisation of his local area development fund and distribution of PDS rice by involving the public, he added.
