Imphal, December 06 2022:
In-spite of the fact that there was no Anglo-Kuki war in the history of Manipur, a number of pillars have been erected at various locations in memory of claimed War which is clearly a case of distortion of history unacceptable under any circumstances and the government should take up stringent actions against those trying to distort the history of Manipur, demanded Federation of Haomee.
Addressing media persons at its Dewlahland office, here, on Tuesday, Federation of Haomee secretary Y Shyamkumar informed that there was never any Anglo-Kuki War 1917-1919.It was only when Chingakham Sanajaoba raised a revolt against the then Maharaja of Manipur Churachand, that some people from the Khongsai tribe could be lured into the revolt with the belief that their yearly house tax would be reduced from Rs 3 to Rs 1 if he (Chingakham Sanajao-ba) becomes the Maharaja of Manipur.
Pointing out that a centenary stone pillar of the Anglo-Kuki war which did not happened at all, has been erected right in the heart of Imphal city at Kuki Inn in addition to the one installed at Aisan village in Saikul block where the name of Manipur CM N Biren Singh has been inscribed, Shyamkumar said many stone pillars of Anglo-Kuki war could be visible in many of the Kuki villages.
While enquiring under whose authority the Anglo-Kuki gate was constructed along the Moirang-Churachandpur Road, Shyamkumar urged authority concerned to clarify the same to the people of Manipur.
He further informed that a memorandum was submitted to the Union Home Minister Amit Shah on October 15, 2019 regarding the issue following which a positive response has been received.
The chief secretary of Manipur also had directed authorities concerned to take down all pillars inscribed 'Anglo-Kuki War'.
Even the Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba had stated in the media that there was no Anglo-Kuki War in the history of Manipur.
