Kangpokpi, March 06 2022:
All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) strongly condemned the alleged attempt to assassinate NPF candidate of Phungyar AC, K Leishiyo, who is also the chairman of Hill Areas Committee, on Saturday.
The tribal students' body stated that a bomb was planted on the main road between Nambashi Khullen and Nambashi Khunou, where the candidate was supposed to travel on his return after casting his vote.
The HAC chairman, however, had a narrow escape from the bomb blast as he had taken a detour of the road by taking a shortcut around 9 am, which would have otherwise posed a grave threat to the life of the candidate, ATSUM said.
The attempt on the life of the HAC chairman, who is a strong proponent of the ADC Bill 2021, is cowardly and sinister, and is a direct affront to the interest of tribal people of the state, it added.
The Union also said that whosoever is behind the life attempt on the HAC chairman must understand that their dastardly act will never be forgiven by the tribal people.
It then demanded the government to initiate an inquiry and nab the culprits to prevent any such attempts upon the HAC chairman in the future.
