A 3-day long discussion and training programme on "Plant Protection Strategies in the Current Scenario of Climate Change" was organised under the aegis of Central Agricultural University (CAU) at its auditorium here today.
The inaugural function of the training programme was graced by Dr M Ruhinikumar, Director of Research, CAU, Imphal; Dr M Premjit, Director of Extension Education, CAU and DR SS Nagra, Director of Instruction, CAU as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr M Ruhinikumar stated that along with the changes in the climatic condition, the level of plant diseases has increased.
Just like, we, human being suffers from various diseases, plants are also prone to certain diseases with changes in the climatic condition.
As such, we should be very careful while planting crops during such times.
Delivering the Presidential speech, Dr M Premjit pointed out that farmers normally used certain pesticides to control various types of plant diseases.
But these pesticides are harmful to human body if the said plants are consumed.
So instead of using pesticides alone to control plant diseases, we should also consider planting certain plants which have their own system of preventing diseases.
The first day of the training programme was divided into two sessions.
In the first session, Dr M Premjit spoke on the topic of "Climate Change and Integrated Pest Management" while Dr Kh Ibohal, Sr Asst Prof (Ento), CAU Imphal on "Integrated Pest management Strategies for Cereals, Oilseeds and Pulses in Relation to Climate change".
