Ukhrul, June 04 2014:
The Ukhrul Veterinary and Animal Husbandry office has been hit hard by shortage of manpower as no replacement made for employees retired in the past few years.
On Tuesday, an official source informed this daily that the Ukhrul Veterinary and Animal Husbandry office should have a total strength of 147 employees in the entire district for effective functioning of its services.
However, the district office has only 91 staff, thereby creating acute shortage of manpower and adversely affecting the administrative functioning of the head office.
In an interaction with this reporter, a department official said that the staff crunch has occurred owing to non-recruitment of staff for the underlying vacancies in the state, while adding that there has been no replacement for retired employees in the district.
The district at present has been engaging its field staffs from other blocks to assist the file works in the head office.
In Ukhrul, the effective operation of service of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry office could not be undertaken till date as the veterinary hospital is still under construction.
It was informed that once the hospital construction is over, the department would be in full swing operation and address the needful in the district.
