Kakmayai village becomes first Model LED village: MANGAL

Kakmayai village which falls under Leirongthel-Ningel Gram Panchayat, Thoubal district is the first ever Model LED village, announced Brozendra Ningombam, Editor in Chief of ISTV Network while distributing LED appliances to the village at Eastern Youth Union Club, Kakmayai .
MANGAL Rural an NGO organised the LED appliances distribution programme.
LED Televisions and LED bulbs were distributed to the villagers.
Sixty LED televisions were distributed to sixty households at a very low installment system.
Thirty houses already had LED televisions.
Kakmayai which has 110 households received two bulbs of 5 watt each.
A total of 400 LED bulbs were distributed to replace the conventional 100 watt and 60 watt bulbs .

Brozendra Ningombam, Sagolsem Kameshwor, retd MCS, Loitongbam Premkumar, president of Artist Training cum Educational Research Centre, Imphal, Ibemton Begum and Kshtrimayum Ichan Devi, members of Leirongthel-Ningel Gram Panchayat attended the event as the presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Brozendra Ningombam lauded MANGAL Rural for its initiatives to help the village.
Ningthoujam Surjit, founder of the MANGAL Rural expressed the need to educate people on the use of LED bulbs and other energy saving appliances which will save much more energy .
He further opined that Kakmayai is the first LED Television village in India.
Conventional CRT TVs in the village have been completely replaced by LED TVs, he said .
Speaking on the various goals achieved by the MANGAL Rural, he said that Atomkhuman was made the first "Solar Village" in the North-East India and Nungtham Tampak village had achieved to become first "Hundred Percent Computer Literate Village." The initiative is estimated to save energy consumption of Kakmayai village by 50 percent.
The model if taken up by whole of Manipur would save much more energy and improve the economy of the state said one villager.
