Imphal, December 03 2015:
Around 700 Imphal-bound goods-laden trucks were stranded on Thursday along two national highways connecting Manipur due to two indefinite economic blockades imposed by Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) and Sadar Hills based civil society organisations pressing for their respective demands.
Sources informed Newmai News Network that around 600 goods-laden trucks were stranded in Leingangpokpi area of Imphal-Jiribam Road (National Highway 37) while another 100 on different sections of Imphal-Dimapur Road (NH-2) which is also known as Trans Asian Highway No.1 .
Over 89 Imphal-bound loaded trucks were also stranded at different points, including 37 others in Kangpokpi area, along Imphal-Dimapur Road section in Senapati District.
Several civil society organisations in Sadar Hills have called the economic blockade expressing strong displeasure against the Manipur government's inaction over their demands for repairing the deplorable conditions of the highway section.
