Imphal, December 03 2009:
Against the backdrop of 'unsatisfactory response' on the efforts for the resumption of normal classes in the state aftermath the unfortunate incident of July 23, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the government to take up adequate measures in order to get rid of the impending danger in the academic careers of the students.
A memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister O Ibobi by DESAM signed its president LC Santosh urged the government to arrange all including holding of extra classes on Sundays and holidays so as to make up the lost classes and to avert the potential threat of losing one precious academic session.
"All necessary arrangements be made to conduct the annual examinations from nursery to class IX in February 2010 for the current academic session and to regulate the same norm in the subsequent years," it urged.
The memo also demanded the authority concerned to arrange for the commencement of new academic session of nursery to class IX from the first week of April in compliance with the recent announcement made by the Minister of Education.
It demanded that arrangements be made to protect the usual schedule of examinations for class X and XII as a little disruption in the schedule would have serious implication of affecting the academic career of the students.
It also demanded that the Manipur University authority should maintain the academic calendar already notified by the MU for under-graduate and post-graduate examinations.
Further, the DESAM representation urged that the government should leave no stone unturned for making the academic institutions of the state a free zone as mandated by the people and DESAM.
