Imphal, February 02 2019:
North East India Development Party (NEIDP) submitted memo to the Governor and the Chief Secretary today, opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 and demanding its immediate withdrawal.
Speaking to media persons at Old Secretariat Complex today, NEIDP's CDWD president in-charge as well as the party's vice president Elangbam Brojendro said that NEIDP met Governor Dr Najma Heptulla and submitted a memorandum appealing the Governor to ensure that the memorandum reaches the President of the country which will let him know about the ground realities and the prevailing situation regarding CAB.
Brojendro said that the party also made it clear that the Bill must not create any unrest in the North East region or harm the peace of the region.
He continued that the Governor assured to look into the matter.
However, the Governor herself was unsure as to whether the Bill will be hurriedly introduced in the Rajya Sabha, he claimed.
Brojendro said that the Governor admitted that all the issues regarding ILP and influx of migrants in the State, will be superseded by a Bill when it is passed by the Union Government.
She also assured to do everything in her power to relay the memo to the President so that necessary actions can be taken up, he added.
On the other hand, NEIDP also submitted a similar memorandum to the Chief Secretary demanding the memo to be relayed to the Prime Minister so that the Bill is immediately withdrawn.
