Imphal, July 29 2021:
Observing that some so-called political activists and their supporters seeking votes for the upcoming election at this time of the Covid-19 are abetting the pandemic, Khurai MLA L Susindro has appealed to the public to not let such people enter their houses.
He also asked the public to stop sitting/chatting together in their locality but stay at home as far as possible.
In a video released on Thursday, Susindro termed as unfortunate that when the government is imposing strict curfew to contain the pandemic, some people are indulging in political campaign for the election.
This is not the time for such activities, when people's lives are at stake, he said.
Social workers who are working for their self-interest must also think about public interest.
If they want to do social work then they must work for public welfare, he stated, while questioning the rationale for carrying out house campaigns when the state is under the grip of Covid-19 pandemic.
Susindro opined that if government takes any action against such people especially who are carrying out election campaign in Khurai assembly constituency, then they will blame the local MLA, while not thinking that their activities have led to their penalisation.
As such, the public should not endorse such campaigns, he said and pointed out that as the election wouldn't be conducted any anytime soon safety concerns of the people need to the accorded top priority.
The MLA also lambasted the people who are congregating in their localities and asked them to stop such activities for some time.
They must support government's effort of containing the disease.
Without public participation, the pandemic cannot be controlled.
Not meeting people for sometimes will not destroy them, he remarked.
Susindro further said that most members of the Meitei community in the constituency have been vaccinated, but the vaccination rate is somewhat lacking among the Muslim community in the AC.
He, thus, appealed to all eligible persons to get vaccinated at the earliest as it is the only protection against the disease.
