NH shutdown comes into effect

The indefinite National Highway shutdown called by chiefs of 12 villages from January 27 midnight in protest against the non-distribution of compensation for land acquired for expansion of National Highway 37 segment from Phaituol village to Sibilong village has come into effect.
While speaking to this correspondent, on behalf of the 12 village chiefs, who are part of Village Authority Chairman Council (VACC), VACC secretary, L Panmei said the compensation to the affected villages has been due for 9 years.
The shutdown was called in protest against such a step motherly treatment, he said while adding that they will also ban National projects within Phaituol to Sibilong village segment.
They will continue the shutdown until their compensations are awarded, he continued.
