Imphal, August 24 2011:
There is no question of withdrawing the agitation until and unless the government concedes to their demand.
It is unfortunate for the government to bring in the issue of Jiribam and Phungyar district demand in amidst of the 40 years old demand of Sadar Hills.
People of Sadar Hills are not demanding to disintegrate the territorial boundary of the state and their demand is a legitimate one, president of the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) Ngamkhohao Haokip said.
Kangujam Modhumangol and Irengbam Arun of ICHAM met Ngamkhohao Haokip at Kangpokpi today and talked on the proposal of the government who sought three month's time to solve the issue.
They also urged him to lift the blockade on humanitarian ground since people of the state are facing many hardships due to the ongoing blockade on the two NHs.
Ngamkhohao Haokip told them that Sadar Hills is almost like a district.
It needs only a DC and a SP to become a full-fledged district.
It is a 40 years old demand for SHDDC.
Many a time, government of the state assured them to make Sadar Hills a full-fledged district which it always failed to translate into action.
Rishang Keishing and Nipamacha assured to give district status to Sadar Hills during their stints.
The ongoing agitation is not an instigated one, but it is a social uprising of the people of the Sadar Hills who automatically comes out for a common cause.
He also said that the demand of SHDDC is not for a single community but for the people of all community residing in the Sadar Hills.
If the government or someone doubted the credibility of the non communal demand of the SHDDC, he would step down from the post of SHDDC president and happily give the post to people of other communities.
Meanwhile, a press statement of SHDDC emailed to Hueiyen Lanpao said that the Government of India has given appropriate directives to the Chief Minister of Manipur for inauguration of Sadar Hills as a full-fledged District of Manipur as mandated by the provision of Manipur (Hills Areas) Autonomous District Council Act, 1971 .
However Ibobi has once again orchestrated delaying tactics to subdue the four decades-old demand for a district-hood.
It also stated that the demand is nothing more or less than a full-fledged District-hood.
All outcomes of extra situations henceforth will be solely bear by the state Government, the statement warned.
