It is informed that long and sustained efforts by 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQs IGAR (S) in motivating the relatives and the surrendered cadres join the mainstream, has eventually materialised in the peaceful surrender of the six individuals.
Speaking at the occasion, DGP Y Joykumar pointed that whatever support the armed groups used to get from the people has declined significantly as the masses are not only aware of futility of violent movements but have also realised that these armed outfits and their cadres/leaders are gripped in the battle of attaining financial wellbeing in the name of fighting injustice.
Expressing that after some years there is strong possibility of activists of armed outfits scorned, apprehended or thrashed by the people as the general public have been fed up with their intention and activities, the State police chief also opined that most youngsters joined UG groups out of frustration and anxiety.
Maintaining that sustained campaigns by the indian Army, Assam Rifles and Manipur police had been able to prise out UG cadres from their comfort zones and are now on the run, the DGP also acknowledged efforts of the Central security forces in paving the path for misguided youths to return to normal life.
He also appealed to the parents to extend cooperation to the security forces in bringing back their wards to the mainstream.
In his address, IGAR (S) Maj Gen CA Krishnan said that peaceful surrender of the cadres with arms would definitely be a guiding beacon for militants not in SoO with the Government, to follow the rest and bring peace and harmony in Manipur.
Such surrender events would further pave the way for other misguided youths to follow suit, he expressed.
The DGP, IGAR (S) and 9 Sector Commander Brig Gajendra Prasad also interacted with family members of the surrenderees during the ceremony.
