JAC appeals Govt to take up security measures to protect family from accused who shot mom-in-law

JAC Against Attempt to Murder of P Takhellei Devi by her Son-in-law (Irom Randhir) as well as the family members of the victim have urged the State Government and authorities concerned to award befitting punishment to Irom Randhir who shot her mother-in-law on September 19 .
It also appealed to the authorities concerned to take up appropriate steps to prevent recurrence of such incident with victim's family in the future.
Speaking to media persons at a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club this afternoon, JAC member Heisnam Indira strongly condemned the act of shooting P Takhellei Devi by her son-in-law Irom Randhir on September 19 saying it was a clearly aimed at murdering the victim.
She demanded the State Government and authorities concerned to award befitting punishment to the accused without delay.
Family members of P Takhellei also narrated the incident happened on September 19 and said that the victim's daughter Irom Ongbi Pebam Sonia Devi has been married to Irom Raiidhir, of Kongpal Kongkham Leikai Imphal East, and the couple has a son and a daughter.
She went on to inform that Sonia was allegedly brutally assaulted very often by her husband (Irom Randhir) and she has been staying at her maternal home since the past 2/3 months following an alleged brutal assault by her husband.
She said that Takhellei and her family members had declined to give her daughter (Sonia) to Randhir's mother and father when the later duo came at Takhellei's residence (Naharup Mayai Leikai, Imphal East) on September 19 to take their daughter-in-law back with them.
About 10 minutes after Randhir's father and mother left Takhellei's residence, Randhir came holding a double barrel gun and allegedly shotTakhellei and fled the scene, Indira said.
Takhellei was critically injured with severe wounds on chest, and arms.
Some fractures of the cartridge are yet to be taken out from her chest although some have been removed from her right hand after operation at Advanced Hospital, Imphal, she said.
Alleging that there were incidence where the Randhir had threatened to kill the elder brother of Sonia in the past, the family members expressed strong apprehension that the accused may do something unwanted to them when he is released from jail.
The family members appealed the State Govt and authorities concerned to take up appropriate security measures to prevent and protect the family from the accused.
