As part of taking precautionary measures against Japanese Encephalitis, Belladonna 200 tablets were administered to students of Enlighten Knowledge Higher Secondary School in Sangakpham, Chingmeirong today.
An awareness programme was also held in which the students were enlightened about the infection and its precautionary measures.
Talking about JE, Dr Ng Brojen told the gathering of students and teachers that many people lost their lives when the virus first originated in Japan in 1871 .
This vector borne virus has spread across the globe and over 166 persons in the State have been affected by JE.
Maintaining that the students were vaccinated as part of the preventive measures, Dr Brojen went on to state that Japanese Encephalitis spreads through the bite of an infected mosquito (vector).
The virus also spreads from some animals, especially infected pigs and birds as they can have large amounts of the virus in their blood and serve as a major source of the virus (reservoir) for mosquitoes, he added.
Continuing that people with low immune system are probable victims of th virus, Dr Brojen further urged all to take precautionary care and protect from mosquito bites all the time.
