Hunger strikers strengthen stand on ILPS

Imphal, August 20 2015 : Demanding immediate implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur and punitive action against those police personnel who were involved in the brutal killing of Sapam Robinhood, many including students who have been undergoing indefinite hunger strike have strengthened their resolve to continue the agitation.

Meanwhile, health condition of Tongbram Jiten, who has been fasting at the waiting shed of Takyel Kolom Leikai, has become serious.

Being a member of Kangleipak Chaokhatnaba Lup, Takyel Kolom Leikai, Jiten has been undergoing indefinite hunger strike since August 18 demanding immediate implementation of ILPS or similar law for the protection of indigenous communities of the State.

Kshetrimayum Kunje (41), daughter of Ksh Kuber of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai started his indefinite hunger strike on Thursday at Singjamei bridge demanding implementation of ILPS in Manipur.

South East Youth Organisation (SEYO) of Singjamei Kshetri Leikai has supported Kunje's fasting.

Hunger strikers strengthen stand on ILPS

After the police personnel had picked up those hunger strikers at Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai, four persons, Waikhom Modhuchandra (58) of Khabam Waikhom, Thokchom Marphy (27) of Lairikyengbam Leikai, Laishram Rameshore of Lairikyengbam Leikai and Oinam Sanjit (32) of Moirang Lamkhai have launched an indefinite fasting from Thursday onwards at Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai.

In Chingmeirong also, two including a minor student have been undergoing indefinite hunger strike demanding ILPS in Manipur.

The two hunger strikers are Ngaidonei Waiphei alias Boinu (15) of Rejina High School and Secretary of Chingmeirong Youth Welfare Association and Chingmeirong Mamang Awang Leikai Singlup Committee Sh Krishnamani.

Meanwhile, health condition of Thongam Apabi (65), who has been fasting at the waiting shed of DM College Gate since August 18, has become serious.

The health condition of eight students, who had fasting in front of DESAM office, Keishampat also are reported to be serious.

Ngariyanbam Dinsesh, Maibam Dinachandra, Laiphrakpam Ronil, Laishram Dhaneshori, Loitongbam Premkumar, Salam Nivash, Elangbam Musuk and Khoirom Jina have been on an indefinite fast unto death demanding immediate implementation of ILPS in Manipur.

The health condition of three students, who had been fasting at Thoubal Wangma Taba Devi Mandab worsened on Thursday.

The three students are Games and Sports Secretary of Waikhom Mani Girls College, Laitonjam Anamika; DESAM Thoubal District President Khundongbam Rabi and a student of Chouyaima Higher Secondary School Sapam Rabita Chanu.

Supporting the JCILPS led public demand of ILPS in Manipur, Asem Ibetombi of Yairipok Laimanai started indefinite hunger strike after JCILPS Yairipok Wing on Thursday organised and staged a sit-in protest at Laimanai Yairipok bridge.

President of Apunba Nupi Khunai Lamjing Meira Lup Imphal East Yairipok Branch, Ibetombi said the State Government should ask the Centre to implement ILPS.

Since the State Government did not listen to the cry of the people, she had chosen to go on an indefinite hunger strike to strengthen public demand, said Ibetombi.

Ching Tam Nupi Apunba Lup Pallel, SDO (Social Development Organisation), Youth Voluntary Association (YVA) Pallel, YDO (Youth Development Organisation) and JCILP Pallel Wing with the help of International Manipuri Mother's Association also staged a huge sit-in protest and formed human chains on Thursday demanding immediate implementation of ILPS in Manipur.

Supporting the ongoing public demand of ILPS in Manipur, Muslims of Singa Development Association (SDA), Singa Ideal Club (SIC), Singa Islamic Student Association Yairipok (SISAY), Youth Progressive Club (YPC), United Youth Club (UYC) jointly organised and staged a sit-in protests while over 500 protesters demanded immediate implementation of ILPS.

Demanding immediate implementation of inner line permit system in Manipur, a sit-in protest was staged on Thursday at Nongpok Sanjembam Tinsid Road by people of the nearby villages and affirmed their stand to continue democratic agitations.
