Imphal, March 19 2016 :
The Senapati District Student's Association (SDSA) today vis-
ited Senapati river which has become a dumping site in order to
take up appropriate steps to keep the river clean, reports our cor-
respondent.
Senapati district administration has been organising ex-
tensive campaigns as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Continuing the cleanliness campaign, SDSA team has
warned the truck owners commuting to and fro Imphal to
refrain from dumping wastes along the NH-2 especially
between Kangpokpi and Khongnem.
Disciplinary action would be taken against those who
defy the instruction of SDSA, the team said.
Despite availability of dustbins in every colonies along
the river bank, Senapati river has turned into a drain where
all wastes coupled by toilet outlets are emptied into the river.
SDSA team also expressed dismayed over the poor garbage
management at Kathikho Karong where the waste is dumped
and burned without any proper procedure.
With an objective to clean Senapati river, SDSA team led

cluding ADC, Senapati Members and others visited different
sites in and around Senapati bazar.
The team also visited the Monday market slaughtering
sites, iconic Senapati bridge, Yapoa Colony bridge, river
colony and Karong Senapati Town Committee garbage
dumping site at Kathikho Karong.
Expressing concern over the poor waste management
system, the team said that mass cleanliness cum awareness
drives would be organised along Senapati river in order to
prevent dumping of waste into one of the tributaries of
Barak river.
The team said that the cleaning project will be partici-
pated by district administration, ADC, Senapati, village
leaders, residents, students, civil bodies and stake holders.
