Karam Shyam hands over soil card to farmers, says soil testing important

Adopting a healthy relationship, maintaining a mutual understanding and walking hand in hand between the Government and the public in every aspect will only lead towards development, conveyed CAF&PD Minister Karam Shyam.
The Minister was making the above statement as the chief guest at the Soil Health Card Day observation cum training for farmers, organised by District Agriculture Office at Langthabal Kunja Awang Leikai community hall today.
Karam Shyam continued that the people of Manipur lack the sense of responsibility and punctuality, which are two crucial factors that the Government as well as the pubic should have to bring about development in the State.
Maintaining that the Prime Minister launched the Soil Health Card scheme in February 19, 2015, the day has been organised to recall the day and to know more about the scheme.
He continued that farmers will not be able to avail the welfare initiatives of the Government if they don't hold the Soil Heath Card (which is received after conducting soil testing).
Carrying out soil testing before growing crops or vegetables will only provide bountiful and healthy harvests/produces, Karam Shyam said.
Saying that the initiative of soil testing is necessary and important, he opined that raising awareness among the farmers and utilising mobile soil testing lab will benefit the farmers.
He appealed all to gather the valuable information and knowledge given by experts during the awareness session.
The resources available in the State are gifts of nature and the present generation should use the resources with care and sustainability.
The Minister further urged the farmers to use the vacant fields after harvest so as to increase production and become self reliant.
He distributed soil health cards to farmers during the function.
District Agriculture Officer, Imphal West Karam Kulabidhu and Agriculture Deputy Director (Soil Chemist) L Gojendra attended the function as presidium members.
Training was imparted to farmers under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana.
