Imphal, November 15 2014 :
Nearly a century old Imphal Municipal Council building at Kangla Park in Imphal city has been earmarked as the suitable premise for the proposed Japanese War Memorial complex.
The state government has taken the decision to turn the building into the war memorial complex, as the office building occupied by the chairperson and executive officer of IMC will be covered under Historical Monument Act when it attains its 100th year of existence within a few years.
The Japanese government, which has been insisting the State for erecting such a Memorial complex in the heart of Imphal city, will incur all the expenses for improvement of the site as a Memorial complex.
The State Cabinet meeting held on Friday last decided for shifting the present IMC office to a proper premise at Lamphel Super Market in Imphal west.

Accordingly, the government has planned for construction of a new IMC building at Lamphelpat with a huge expenditure.
However, the Councillors of IMC who have not endorsed the move, will meet on or before November 25 to discuss the shift proposal.
Meanwhile, a section of the old assembly secretariat building will now be turned into State Museum.
While the L-shaped building is being occupied by Food Corporation of India regional office and the Passport office, the remaining will house the State Museum.
Moreover, some parts of the old assembly complex has been taken over for the planned expansion of the Indira Park and construction of the same has already started, according to a reliable source.
The source stated that the place at Kangla Park where the official quarters of the judges stand will be turned into a big park when the construction of residences of Manipur High Court judges is complete.
In view of the dire need of parking spaces inside the Khwairamband Market, the government has been negotiating with the women vendors for sparing the ground floor of the women market complexes into public parking.
In the meantime, women vendors currently occupying the temporary market will be given room inside the Tombisana High school complex, while limited number of shops will be constructed at the present site of temporary market to accommodate the shops which were affected by expansion of BT road.
The remaining parts at the site will be left as public parking area, which is going to be a multi-storey parking.
The State government has chalked out the plans, even though it would take years, said the source.
