JAC against Ukhrul child torture set 5-day deadline

Ukhrul, February 14 2013:
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed against the inhuman torture meted out to a nine-year old recently in Ukhrul has set a five-day deadline to arrest the culprits.
On Thursday, the Ukhrul based organisations joined hands to form JAC against the inhuman torture inflicted to a minor girl by one Jim Horam on February 3 last.
The JAC comprises of District Women Committee, Naga People Movement for Human Right, Ukhrul District Alliance for Child Right, Sustainable Livelihood Forum, UDNAH, AGRIPROMCO Ltd, ELSHADAI, Guwahati Student Union, Volunteer for Village Development and Zingtun Tangkhul Katamnao Long.
In a statement issued to the press, JAC convenor AC Thotso demanded an immediate arrest of the culprits within by February 19 and award penalty befitting to the crime, failing which it warns of launching series of agitation.
The JAC also urged the authorities and public to provide relief to the victim girl child.
Further, it demanded that the culprits who are employees under Ukhrul Autonomous District Council be terminated from service with immediate effect.
The JAC has also submitted a representation to Ukhrul deputy commissioner, superintendent of police, chief executive officer of Ukhrul ADC.
Meanwhile, a co-accused Andibas Horam has been released on bail on Thursday.
In the Ukhrul CJM court, the defendant lawyer has filed for bail for the co-accused citing ill health and with an assurance of reporting daily to the police station.
