AR jawan, havildar found dead

Imphal, June 13 2021:
A jawan of 15 Assam Rifles is suspected to have claimed own life after gunning down a Havildar of the company located at Ngarumphung, Yaingangpokpi under Yaingangpokpi PS on Saturday evening.
The deceased Havildar has been identified as Uttam Kumar Mekh of Salamari in Dibugarh (Assam), while the jawan has been identified as Rifleman SR Aron of Longpi Kajui village, Ukhrul.
According to a police report, the 15 AR personnel were readying for the evening roll call when they heard some rounds fired around 5.40 pm Saturday.
They immediately rushed to the barracks where the gunshots were heard and found the dead bodies of Uttam Kumar Mekh and SR Aron.
The report further conveyed that Aron seemed to have committed suicide with the AK-47 rifle issued to him after shooting Uttam Kumar.
A gunshot wound was found on the left chest of Uttam Kumar, while Aron had a bullet wound on his chin, exiting through his head.
On receiving news of the incident, a team of Yaingangpokpi PS arrived at the scene and conducted preliminary investigations.
The dead bodies have been brought to JNIMS mortuary for post mortem examination and the AK-47 rifle used in the incident has been seized, it added.
