CBI team raids quarter, house of Dr Sekharjit

Imphal, September 12 2014 : A special team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths today conducted massive raid at the house of former Director of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) Dr Sinam Sekharjit Singh and continued the search at eight other places including his official quarters, Administrative Block of RIMS Dental College and seized all documents related to purchase of Dental chairs for the Government hospital. It may be noted here that Dr Sekharjit was removed prematurely from his post on August 26 this year after the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare issued an order to this effect on August 25 .

Reports said the raids were carried out by a 35-member team of CBI sleuths in connection with alleged misappropriation of a huge amount of money by Dr Sekharjit while he was in office in buying Dental Chairs for the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and also taking bribes while recruiting staff nurses.

The former RIMS Director is facing corruption charges and the CBI has been handling the Dental Chairs procurement case as well as another case pertaining to recruitment of nurses through alleged backdoor policy.

The CBI reportedly submitted an FIR copy to the District and Sessions Judge, Manipur East on May 23, 2014 in connection with the misappropriation cases.

During Friday's raid at his official quarter, the CBI team met Dr Sekharjit's wife, Dr Damayenti, sources said.

The massive raid started early in the morning and continued till evening.

The CBI team reportedly seized some important documents from Sekharjit's quarters, but he was not there as he was out of station, they said, adding the CBI team was also checking his laptop, other important documents and properties to seize them.
