Imphal, March 12 2013:
All India Congress Committee (AICC) has given strict instructions for appointing a new President of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) along with appointment of Deputy Speaker and other necessary Political appointments.
According to reports received by Hueiyen Lanpao, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also presently the President of MPCC, had earlier expressed his desire to resign from the post of MPCC chief on the ground that the Congress follows the principle of "one man, one post".
The report further informed that the Congress at present has not been decided as to who should be appointed as the new President of MPCC.
However, MLA T Mangibabu of Thanga A/C and MLA TN Haokip of Saikot A/C are among those eyeing for the post of MPCC Chief.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister O Ibobi is trying to fill up the vacant post of Deputy Speaker following strict instructions from the Centre.
Though the Chief Minister had approached some of the Congress MLAs; they have showed unwilling to accept the post.
As such, it has not been decided as to who will be appointed to the post.
However, there are speculations that MLA M Prithviraj of Moirang A/C may ultimately step in to occupy the post out of compulsion.
On the other hand, the Centre has instructed the State Government to appoint all the political appointments including the Chairman of PDA, Deputy Chairman of Manipur State Planning Board, Chairman of MANIDCO, Chairman of MANITRON and the Chairman of Manipur State Pollution Control Board, by July next.
Sources said that in all likelihood, the Chief Minister may appoint a new MPCC chief, Deputy Speaker and make all the political appointments by the end of April.
